Free Cholesterol Screenings at NASCAR Race

I'm, like, part of the media now, so I get these press releases all the time. Most of them are totally uninteresting to me or anyone else. This one gave me a chuckle though. I mean, c'mon, it's NASCAR. Chef BoyarAndy is going to be very upset with me.

MEDIA ADVISORY

FREE CHOLESTEROL SCREENINGS TO BE OFFERED AT NASCAR’S

CHAMPIONHIP [sic] RACES DURING 2014 FORD CHAMPIONSHIP WEEKEND AT HOMESTEAD-MIAMI SPEEDWAY

Cholesterol awareness events on November 14, 15 and 16 are sponsored by AstraZeneca

WHAT: Free cholesterol screenings for adults aged 18 and older will be conducted at Homestead-Miami Speedway on Friday, November 14th through Sunday, November 16th during NASCAR’s Championship Races during the 2014 Ford Championship Weekend.

Sponsored by AstraZeneca, the free cholesterol screenings are part of an educational initiative the company is conducting to help raise awareness about the importance of “knowing your numbers” as nearly 37% of South Floridians have high cholesterol levels. Health care professionals will be onsite to provide screening results and information about the importance of managing cholesterol levels.

WHO: The cholesterol screening is free and open to the public for adults aged 18 and older.

WHERE & WHEN: The cholesterol screenings at Homestead-Miami Speedway will be held on Friday, November 14th through Sunday, November 16th at the following times:

· Friday, November 14th: 11:30 AM – 8:00 PM

· Saturday, November 15th: 11:30 AM – 4:30 PM
· Sunday November 16th: 10:00 AM – 3:30 PM

The cholesterol screenings will be held in the display area located beyond gate 11.

WHY: High cholesterol is a major risk factor for heart disease and it affects an estimated 31.9 million Americans. Only 1 out of every 3 adults with high cholesterol has the condition under control. Since there are no signs or symptoms of high cholesterol, getting your cholesterol checked with a simple blood test is the only way to know if you have high cholesterol. It is important that cholesterol levels are kept within healthy limits.

Food Network Star Casting Call

Ok, ok, if you guys really think I'm "captivating" I'll go and audition. Jeez, you're embarrassing me over here!

Even if you think that the term "celebrity chef" is an insult to your intelligence and the entire restaurant industry, you have to admit that the concept helps sell a lot of commercials. Nothing more American than that. Watching Food Network is certainly more productive than pretending the players on your fantasy football team work for you. USA! Sign up here.
